LEAGUE DOUBLES FINAL – 23/04/25
The Hilltown Leagues Doubles final (last 16) took place at Taxi Club Club on Wed 23rd April 25. It was a perfect venue for dominoes with 8 boards, plenty space, and plenty room for all players. We had 16 doubles battling it out for supremacy and the coveted Hilltown League Doubles title!
Congratulations to Dodes Dolderer & Willie Carroll (Hobo`s) on becoming the
Hilltown League Doubles Champion 2024-25, after beating Jake Chalmers &
George McCord (Snug Bar) 9-7 in the final.
This victory means the Hobo`s have made it a clean sweep of the league individual
titles (Singles & Doubles), amazing stuff!
Thank you to the Taxi Club, the bar staff, and to James Hendry for controlling
the finals
Thank you to all the players who took part in this fantastic
night’s dominoes.
Once again well-done Dodes & Willie!

WEEK 26 – 09/04/25
LEAGUE
Club Metro extend their lead at the top of the table after letting Harlequins know who is boss, while the Snug Bar caused the upset of the night, by absolutely knocking seven bells out of defending champions, Fairmuir! With 4 games left, it`s all in Club Metro`s hands to reclaim the title.
The Taxi Club beat Athletic B to remain in 3rd place, and the Ellenbank did the 8-1 double against Victoria to remain level with the Taxi Club, but with a game in hand! This time it was Brian Bullions who stopped the whitewash for Victoria!
There were wins for the Rat Pack (Hill Bar), The Clubbee (Athletic A) & the Hobo`s (Rosebank 80).
Congratulations to Dynamo Hilltown for winning their match against the disbelieving Ladywell! With this win, they still have an outside chance of lifting themselves of the bottom of the table! Fact or fiction?
With 4 matches left, there is still a lot to be decided, including who will finish bottom of the league, so who`s nerve will hold up, or fold?
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
The Clubbee win the double-header against Athletic A to join them on 14 points,
along side the Snug Bar, also on 14 points after their thumping victory against
the Fairmuir!
Still all to play for with 4 matches left!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Both Dave McMahon (Harlequins), and George McCord (Snug Bar), won their games, while Benny Sharp (Athletic A) lost ground after he lost. It`s going to the wire!

WEEK 25 – 02/04/25
LEAGUE
Club Metro, rat-a-tat-tat, the Rat Pack, sent packing! That`s life and That`s Amore all rolled into one! Fairmuir stay on your coattails with a narrow, but good win against the Maids of the Mist, Victoria!
The Taxi Club lose ground on the leaders after
getting pummelled by their club mates, the Hobo`s. With mates like that,
who needs enemy’s!
With the Ellenbank not playing due to a postponement from Dynamo
Hilltown, it gave other teams an opportunity to close the gap on them. Harlequins
did just that with a tight win against the Clubbee, but Victoria just missed
out against Fairmuir.
Athletic A were on fire after winning their double header against the Snug Bar. This moved them up to 7th place now in the league and also put the in the lead for the consolation.
The Hill Bar are in relative terms having a good season with another good win against Rosebank 80.
The Ladywell ripped into Athletic B, making them look more pedestrian, than athletic to take the points!
With 5 weeks left, it in Club Metro`s hands to regain the league title! Any slip up and others are waiting to swoop!
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
With the Snug Bar and the Clubbee, both losing, Athletic A took full advantage
to take the lead, after their double-header win against the Snug Bar. But with
5 matches left, it`s still all to play for!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Dave McMahon (Harlequins) lost, but George McCord (Snug Bar), won to finally catch Dave and both are tied on 38 points! Benny Sharp (Athletic) is in great form at the moment, winning his match and sitting now just 2 points from the leaders! Squeaky bum time for the top two!

--------------------------------
WEEK 24 – 26/03/25
LEAGUE
Club Metro put down a challenge to the other teams,
by sending a message, that they mean business after giving the Hill Bar
a team whitewash! I guess, so not much a hill, more a small mound?
Fairmuir, who are still in with a chance to defend their title saw off Dynamo
Hilltown, but not by much. The Taxi
Club won the bragging rights against fellow club team mates, Rosebank 80!
It was one of those weeks as 3 of the matches were won by teams only getting 4
winners!
Ellenbank saw off the Athletic B challenge, but only just! While
the Hobo`s made it past the Ladywell who had 5 winners! The Rat
Pack completed the 4 winners challenge, taking down the Clubbee.
That wiped the smile of the Cheshire Cat after last weeks great result!
Harlequins keep themselves in the hunt with a nice win over the Snug
Bar! There was also the small matter of the Dominologist fight between the top two, but for
some reason, they were not paired together? To top that, they both lost! See
if they had played each other, one of them would have won at least, either way!
Karma!
Athletic A caused the upset of the night, taking down Vicotria to
move themselves up to 8th place.
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
With the Snug Bar and the Clubbee, both losing, the Athletic A join them on 12
points, with only 6 matches left. Who will hold their nerve? Who will crumble
just before the finning line? We shall need to wait and find out. I know who I
have my money on, but mum`s the word!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Dave McMahon (Harlequins) and George McCord (Snug Bar), both lost, and that was their comeuppance for not taking each other on! Still it gives other players a chance to catch them before the end! Benny Sharp (Athletic) took full advantage with his 5th win in a row to move just 4 points behind the leader, Dave McMahon!

LEAGUE SINGLES FINAL – 19/03/25
The Hilltown Leagues Singles final (last 32) took place at Fairmuir Club on Wed 19th March 25. It was a perfect venue for dominoes with 8 boards, plenty space, and plenty room for all players. Only one player did not turn up, so we had 31 players battling it out for supremacy and the coveted Hilltown League Singles title!
Even with 8 boards, and players being put on as matches came
off, it did not finish until 11: 50pm!
There were some cracking match-ups, but in the end, there can only be one left
standing (Sounds like a film score made for Scotland?).
The semi-final line up`s included two female players from
the same pub, Theresa Harrington (Athletic A) and Irene Livie (Athletic B) &
Willie Philips (Hobo`s) and Stephen Gray (The Clubbee).
Congratulations to Willie (Billy) Philips (Hobo`s) on becoming the Hilltown
League Singles Champion 2024-25! Willie, beat Irene Livie (Athletic B) 11-7 in
the final.
Well done Irene on getting to the final, no easy feat in this league!
Thank you to all the players for making it an easy night to control. Thank you to
the people who made my life easier, helping out (Alice Noble, Billy Riddell,
John Martin, & Graham Clark).
Also thank you to the Fairmuir Club, especially their bar staff who were amazing on the night!
Well deserved Willie!
For the draw and results, click "HERE"
------------------------------
LEAGUE SINGLES QUALIFIERS
We had 170 players entered this season! We ended up with 141 who turned up and played (29 missing in action!).
In the end there were some surprising omitting, some unexpected finalists and some lesser teams that faired far better than the more celebrated teams! Only one team missed out on getting a player in the final, while one team got 6 players in the final! The mighty Fairmuir could only muster one hero this time, John Shirkey! Well if you are only going to get one player there, it`s good to know it`s your teams top player!
Congratulations to all the finalists, who will do battle on Wed 19th March 25, 7:45pm sign-in, at the Fairmuir Club!
For the list of finalists, click "HERE"
---------------------------
WEEK 23 – 05/03/25
LEAGUE
Well, it was looking like the title race was all over as
teams seemed to be bending over backwards the last few weeks, to hand the
league to Club Metro. Then up pops the Clubbee to throw a spanner
in the works by throwing away their clubs and replacing them with a sledgehammer
to get a shock win against the league leaders and open up the league!
Captain, David Robbins had a bigger grin on his face, than the Cheshire
Cat!
All the top teams bar one took full advantage of this banana skin moment, with
the Fairmuir taking care of business against the Athletic B. The Taxi
Club just doing enough to pip the Hill Bar to the points. The Ellenbank
after two defaults finally got back to winning ways against the Hobo`s,
with a scintillating and dazzling performance, winning 8 of the 9 singles. The
hero of the hour for Hobo`s was none other than their very own superman, Dodes
Dolderer, who just beat Alice Noble 11-10. Alice on the other hand
was up, up and away!
Harlequins, were unable to take advantage as Victoria turned back the hands of time and gave them a domino lesson in every department, slicing them up like a good Pizza! This result propelled Victoria above Harlequins in the table. The only question is, “Who ate the pineapple?
Athletic A also produced a great performance, also winning their singles 8-1 against Dynamo Hilltown! The hero for Dynamo Hilltown, stopping the whitewash was, Rory Petrie! This win points Athletic A just one point behind the Rat Pack, who lost to the Snug Bar, who also are just one point behind the Rat Pack now!
The Ladywell and Rosebank 80 fought out a draw to share the spoils!
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
With the Clubbee and the Snug Bar both winning, and the Athletic
A also winning, nothing chanced in the table. Who will be left standing at the
end? Only time will tell!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Dave McMahon (Harlequins) and George McCord (Snug Bar), both won to keep this titanic battle going. So far it`s been a tale of two half’s as, Dave was the hero of the first half of the season, only losing one game, and at the moment in the 2nd half, George has only lost one game so far. Benny Sharp (Athletic A) is in 3rd place, 6 points behind Dave, ready to pounce if the front runners slip up.
This is turning into one hell of a battle, but who will be singing the Elton John song`s,
“I`m Still Standing”, or “That`s why they call it the Blues” at the end!

-------------------------------
WEEK 22 – 26/02/25
LEAGUE
It seems the chasing pack are doing their best to hand Club
Metro the league title without a fight! In two weeks, Club Metro`s lead has
gone from 2 points (one match), to now 5 points, with 8 matches left!
Club Metro beat the Snug Bar, while the Hobo`s did Club
Metro a big favour, by taking down the reigning champions, Fairmuir!
Rosebank
80 also chipped in for Club Metro with an unexpected brucie bonus, beating Ellenbank!
That makes it two defeats in the last two matches for Ellenbank. Are the wheels
coming of their challenge as the heat rises and they near the finish line? As Sir
Tom Jones sang “It`s not unusual”!
Taxi Club keep up their challenge after a win against the Ladywell.
Athletic A got the bragging rights in their derby match against Athletic
B!
Rat-a-tat-tat, who let the dogs out, as Victoria finally get back to
winning ways, with a murderous performance against the Rat Pack!
The Clubbee just, and I mean just beat the Hill Bar by one very
slender chalk! Not so much wheedling a big club, more like a chopstick! A win is
a win, no matter how you get there!
The performance of the week goes to Harlequins who won all 9 singles (whitewash) against the young guns of the Dynamo Hilltown, winning by 42 chalks! It must have hurt as Dynamo Hilltown did not hand in their match sheet, making it a double whammy! Harlequins only had 8 players and had to put on their worst score again, which was captain, John Martin, who won 11-10 in his first match!
Club Metro are on course to get back the title they lost to
Fairmuir last season.
Can anybody step up to the plate and bring them back to first base?
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
The Clubbee draw level with the Snug Bar, and Athletic A are now
only 2 points (one match) away from both of them! This could go to the
wire, survival of the fittest!
He who dares, wins!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Dave McMahon (Harlequins) is still fighting for this title, despite it getting tougher in the 2nd half , getting a win in week 22 to keep his slender 2-point (one match) lead at the top. Hunting him down like a rabbit dog is, George McCord (Snug Bar), who is firing on all cylinders at the moment. The rest of the chasing pack are 6 points behind Dave (Benny Sharp (Athletic A) & John Martin (Harlequins).
Can Dave hold on, or will it be like a Tale of two City’s, “It was the best
of times, it was the worst of times” Which one will it be Dave?

--------------------
WEEK 21 – 19/02/25
LEAGUE
Club Metro extend their lead at the top to 3 points after just overcoming Victoria, and Ellenbank getting brutally butchered by the Taxi Club, 8 – 1 in singles! Ellenbank`s hero, stopping the whitewash was Chris McKinley, who has already put in his measurements for his superhero suit and cape. Up, up and away!
Fairmuir move into second place after a comfortable win against Rosebank 80. Ellenbank moved down to 3rd place, 2 points clear of their butchers, the Taxi Club, now in 4th place.
Harlequins drop down to 5th place after a surprising loss to the overjoyed Athletic B! There was a rumour, the Athletic B captain, Willie Milne, got on a table and did the Usan Bolt victory pose? Anyone got a photo of that? This is Harlequins 3rd loss in their last 4 matches, can they stop the rot!
There were also wins for Rat Pack (Dynamo Hilltown); Hobo`s (Athletic A); Ladywell (Hill Bar) & the Snug Bar (The Clubbee).
Still, anybody`s title with 9 matches left, but Club Metro have it in their own hands to regain the title off Fairmuir!
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
With the Clubbee and Athletic A losing, the Snug Bar sit top of the consolation
table by 2 points. Like the main league, still all to play for, and we all know
the consolation league has more swings & roundabouts than Glenrothes!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
It`s been some “Hard Times” in the 2nd
half of the season for Dave “Oliver Twist” McMahon (Harlequins), but
he stays on top after winning his match. George McCord (Snug Bar) still
on his tail, after also winning, and must have, “Great Expectations”
of catching Dave! You could not write this stuff, unless you are someone like,
Charles Dickens!

HILLTOWN DOMINO NEWS
CANCER CHARITY AFTERNOON
Sun 16th Feb 25 – 2pm to 5pm
Venue: Taxi Club
The Taxi Club held a Charity afternoon for Cancer, or at least that was the official line, enforced by a three-line whip! This was the case, but with a twist.
In truth, we were raising funds for one of our own, Hilltown
League domino players who has cancer and has been going through harsh cancer
treatment. Our cancer warrior is none other that Kim Houston from the Rat Pack.
Kim thought she was coming to raise funds for a cancer charity, and was completely
taken by surprise (we hope?), when James Hendy called her up to the
floor.
To be honest, it was an amazing afternoon, and I have never seen so many donations, people just kept coming in with gifts for raffles, Bingo, Joe 90`s, etc, it was humbling to see.
Everybody came together, from family, friends and of course the Hilltown League domino family, to help raise funds for Kim & Rab to help with the ongoing problems and needs of Kim`s treatment and recovery.
At the end, we raised an out of this world £2,100,
which included a donation from our league charity funds. This was an unbelievable
amount given it was only 3 hours in total!
When James called Kim up and presented her with the money, Kim was overwhelmed
by all of this, even speechless. Yes, know that`s hard to believe!
A good time was had by all, and we manged to help Kim. a league family member, in her fight with the enemy, a truly brave cancer warrior!
Thank you to everybody involved, who helped before, and during this event, donating, collecting, selling, and helping throughout the event.
Thank you to Benny Sharp (Athletic) for donating a Dundee United domino board, which in auction, raised a mind-blowing £200!
Thank you to James Hendry for his outstanding comparing skills, and Audrey for the soup and other things, and to all those behind the scene collecting and counting the money!
But the big thank you is to everybody that put their hand in their pocket to raise this money:
THANK YOU ALL!
Kim, remember that you are stronger than you ever realized, and everybody is right behind you, to support you through this journey of life!

LEAGUE & CONSOLATION CUPS – 5/02/25
WEEK 20 – 12/02/25
LEAGUE
Well, what a week with 3 of the top six teams losing! The Hobo`s humped Harlequins! Fairmuir ordered a Taxi, then ran the Taxi Club over, and the Clubbee sent Victoria for a fall with some “Wednesday night fever” on the domino board! The Clubbee captain, John Travolta, sorry David Robbins, was dancing for joy! Do you own a white suit David?
Club Metro re-engineered the Dynamo to stay top by 2 chalks from the Ellenbank who were not for bowing to the Ladywell winning by 12 chalks, to stay firmly attached to Club Metro`s coat-tails!
Both the Athletic teams were fit for purpose as the “A”
team “bank”ed the points against the “Rose”, while the “B” team sent
the “Rat”`s, “pack”ing” with only a draw!
The Snug Bar closed the gap on the Rat Pack with a good win against the Hill
Bar.
With 10 matches left, it`s still wide open for the league title!
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
The Clubbee & the Snug Bar are still joint top after both winning, but the
Athletic A are on both their tails, almost bromance style! Just saying!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Charles Dickens wrote “A Tale of Two Cities” and it seems like “A tale of Two Half’s” in our league with, Dave “Danny DeVito” McMahon (Harlequins), who after only losing the very last game of the first half (
Schwarzenegger style)
, but already losing 3 of the first 5 matches of the second half! Maybe it`s time to change his nickname again to “Oliver Twist”
Going through “Hard Times” Dave`s lead is now down to 2 points (one game) from George “Fagan” McCord (Snug Bar), who is planning to pickpocket the title from Mr McMahon! Mm…seems we have a theme here? Watch out for the next edition of “The Pickwick Papers” coming to you next week!

LEAGUE CUP – 2nd round
No major shocks this time with the top two big guns reaching the semi-final
stage. Club Metro saw off the Athletic B challenge, winning 7 of the 8 singles
on the way.
In the premier tie of the round, Fairmuir proved just too strong for Victoria,
also winning 7 of the 8 singles along the way!
Hobo`s got a nice win away from home against the Clubbee,
winning 3 of the 4 doubles! Ellenbank after finishing all square after the
singles against the Rosebank 80, won all 4 doubles to win through to the
semi-finals!
League Cup Finalists: Club Metro; Fairmuir; Ellenbank & Hobo`s
CONSOLATION CUP – 1st round
Ladywell caused the upset of the round, beating in form Harlequins! Ladywell had a slender lead after the singles, then won 3 of their 4 double to reach the semi-finals!
The Rat Pack won against the Snug Bar and they were joined in the semi`s by their club mates, the Taxi Club, who saw off the challenge of Dynamo Hilltown.
Also making it to the semi-finals are the Hill Bar who just
won an almighty struggle against the Athletic A, by 2 chalks! Way to go!
Consolation Cup Finalists: Taxi Club; Rat Pack; Ladywell & Hill Bar
The Semi-finals & Final take place on Wed 28th
May 25.
League Cup Venue: The Clubbee
Consolation Cup venue: The Taxi Club
Congratulations to all the winners, but the losers are now
out of the cup competitions.

----------------------
WEEK 19 – 29/01/25
LEAGUE
Only one shock result this week with the Snug Bar
just sneaking past 2nd placed Victoria by 2 chalks. It may
have only been 2 chalks, but the Snug won the individual singles matches 6-3!
All the big guns won with Club Metro making the Athletic B
looking anything but athletic! Fairmuir gave the Ladywell a
spanking winning 8 of the 9 singles. The super Hero for a second time was Billy
“don’t` be a hero” Abbot, spoiling the Fairmuir party!
Harlequins got back to winning ways against Rosebank 80, after their hiatus last week!
The Ellenbank turned the “Hill” into nothing more than a mound, winning 6 of the 9 singles, but with both sides having big wins and losses!
The Taxi Club made it 5 wins in a row with another exterminating performance, this time against the out of shape Athletic A! Yes, I can confirm this is a true story, not Science Fiction!
The Rat Pack took the bragging rights against their club mates, the Hobo`s, but both teams stay in the same positions in the league!
The Clubbee made sure the “Dynamo” Hilltown never got going to take the points.
It is a very close league this season at this stage, with only 4 points separating the top six teams!
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
With the Athletic A losing, the Clubbe and Snug Bar now jointly lead the
Consolation table, but only by 2 points. Like the main league, a long way to
go!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Long time leader, Dave “Devito” McMahon (Harlequins), wins, and still keeps a 4-point lead after 19 matches! Can he hold on and, in the process, once again upgrade to “Schwarzenegger”, a “TALL” order!
For all the results, tables, click the link “HERE”

--------------------------
WEEK 18 – 22/01/25
LEAGUE
It was a good night for Club Metro as they won and both their nearest rivals lost, to extend their lead at the top (28pts)!
Club Metro took down the Hobo`s in this derby match, while Ellenbank just got the better of the Fairmuir in a fiery and nerve jangling in counter!
The score of the night went to the Taxi Club who took
everybody by surprise, including themselves, with an almighty hammering (8
winners!) of the inform Harlequins. Talk about taking a team apart,
it was carnage! I am sure there is a law against such brutality!
Harlequins super-hero, stopping the team whitewash was Mick McIntosh. There
is a rumour he will be awarded his super-hero cape at the next home match! I am sure it will be very fetching on him!
Victoria conquered the Hill Bar, climbing all over them to take the points and move into 2nd place on chalks, with the Ellenbank moving up to 3rd place on chalks, but on the same points as Victoria (26pts). Harlequins & Fairmuir move down to 4th & 5th respectively on chalks, but on the same points (25pts). The Taxi Club stay in 6th place, but now only a point behind, Harlequins & Fairmuir.
There were also wins for Athletic A (Ladywell), Athletic B (The Clubbee), the Snug Bar (Dynamo Hilltown), and Rosebank 80 (Rat Pack).
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
With the leaders losing (The Clubbee), Athletic A & the Snug Bar join them
at the top of the Consolation on 4 points, with the Athletic taking top spot, on
chalks!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Long time leader, Dave “Schwarzenegger” McMahon (Harlequins), stays top, despite losing for the second time in 3 matches. John Martin (Harlequins) failed to close the gap after also being part of the Taxi Club carnage! Other players did move closer to the leader, but he still leads by 4 points!

--------------------------
WEEK 17 – 15/01/25
LEAGUE
Club Metro & Fairmuir get back to winning ways after their hiatus
last week! Club Metro (26pts) got sweet revenge against Rosebank 80,
while Fairmuir (25pts) made it a more comfortable win against the Hill Bar,
this time around!
Harlequins (25pts) are keeping the pressure on with another good win against the Ladywell, to keep themselves in pole position to strike if anybody slips up!
Indeed, the top 5 places stay the same after Victoria (24pts) beat Dynamo Hilltown and the Ellenbank (24pts) won against the Athletic A.
There were also wins for the Taxi Club (Rat
Pack), Snug Bar (Athletic B) and the Clubbee
surprised the Hobo`s, winning six of the 9 singles!
There were a number of big wins individually this week, including three, 11-1
wins!
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
With a nice win against Hobo`s, the Clubbee take an early lead in the Consolation
table after 2 weeks! Athletic A are on 2 points in 2nd place,
with the rest still to get points on the board!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Leader, Dave “Schwarzenegger” McMahon (Harlequins), gets his first win of the second half (only 2 weeks old)! Team mate and Harlequins captain, John Martin, keeps the pressure on with another good win! George McCord (Snug Bar), joins George Angus (Victoria) on 24 points, while James Hendry (Club Metro) & Adam Smart (Snug Bar), lose a bit of ground after both losing.

------------------------
WEEK 16 – 08/01/25
First night of the second half and what a night it was too!
Fireworks, Sparklers, Pyrotechnics, and what happened in one match is a mystery
still, it had it all!
Both top teams, Club Metro & Fairmuir lost, yes, I said lost! The Taxi
Club pipped Club Metro to the winning line by 1 chalk, while the Athletic
A, humped, turned-over, bashed, thumped, walloped, thwacked and knocked the
Fairmuir, clear out of the domino park, winning by an impressive 25 chalks!
Benny Sharp looked more like the Cheshire cat, than the Cheshire cat!
The next two top teams (Ellenbank & Harlequins) battled it out, blow
for blow, but could not be separated in the end, with the match finishing all
square!
This gave other teams a chance to close the gaps. Victoria did just that
taking the points against the Athletic B, as did the Rat Pack
against Ladywell and the Hobo`s who made the Snug, not so
snug!
The Clubbee took care of business against the Rosebank 80, which
left the Dynamo Hilltown v the Hill Bar match, but I have not received a team
sheet at the time of doing this report. Pity I was not a clairvoyant; it would
make my job easier!
CONSOLATION LEAGUE
It`s only week one, but taking an early lead are Fairmuir conquers, Athletic
A and The Clubbee, the only two teams of the 8, to win!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Well leader, Dave “Schwarzenegger” McMahon
(Harlequins), finished the first half of the season with his first loss, and
now begins the second with his 2nd loss (28 points)! Team mate and Harlequins
captain, John Martin, closes the gap (24 points) on Dave with a nice
victory against Ellenbank. Joining John on 24 points is George Angus
(Victoria), with George McCord (Snug Bar), James Hendry (Club
Metro) & Adam Smart (Snug Bar) in equal 3rd place on 22
points.
Dave still has a good lead, but the baying chasing pack now smell blood and are
looking to feast on the leaders’ bones!

LEAGUE CUP – ROUND 1
The format of 8 singles and 4 doubles can change the overall balance of a team, so you are never totally sure what will happen! That`s what makes cup matches different from the league games.
Rosebank 80 pulled off the biggest shock of the round, taking down the inform Harlequins! Next up it was Athletic B who sent the Rats Packing! The Clubbee surprised their opponents with a “Flash, Bang Wallop” performance to send the Athletic A tumbling into the Consolation Cup! The Taxi Club might have thought they had Fairmuir on the ropes, only to lose all 4 doubles and end up in the consolation cup!
The rest of the matches went to the form book in the end!

Cups), checkout our website (link below). Round 2 is on Wed 5th Feb 25!

CHARITY NIGHT – 11/12/24
What an amazing night at the Taxi Club, who were the hosts for the Hilltown
Central Wednesday Domino League`s annual charity night! It started at 7:55pm
and ended 10pm, so just a normal domino night!
We had a great turnout, and some amazing financial support! On the night, two
Donkey Derby`s, two Joe 90`s, Bingo and a couple of auctions! In that short time,
we managed to raise £484. Then Alice Noble made it £500! Then after a good run
at the Bingo, the Victoria team donated another £40 (thank you), to make
it £540 on the night. If you add in the £10 fine for one team missing, you have
an outstanding £550 raised in just two hours!
As always, you never seem to amaze us with your generous support, so a big, big
thank you to you all. Also thank you to individuals & teams that handed
donations in, plus master craftsman, Benny Sharp (Athletic) who made and
donated one of his famous domino boards, this time it was a Dundee United one.
It was outstanding craftsmanship.
The auction for the domino board was a very competitive
bidding war, with Pat Mitchell (Club Metro) finally getting her hands on it for
£120! Barry Hodge (Athletic) & Frankie Falconner (Rosebank 80) winning the
Joe 90`s. Kin Houston (Rat Pack) & Alice Noble (Ellenbank), both won the
Donkey Derby`s!
There are only a few last-minute photo`s (see our Facebook page) as I
was running around like a mad man and totally forgot to take them (Apologies)!
Thank you to James Hendry for comparing, calling the bingo and being the actioner on the night!
Once again, thank you all for a great night and your charity support!

WEEK 15 – 04/12/24
Club Metro stay top after a comfortable win against Ladywell. Fairmuir keep on Club Metro`s tail (no need for binoculars) after winning the big head-to-head of the night against in form Harlequins! Harlequins drop to 3rd place, but still only 2 points (one win) behind Club Metro.
Ellenbank move into 4th place, just 3 points behind Club Metro, after getting the better of the Rat Pack, who drop one place to 7th.
Hobo`s secure a top 8 finish in the 1st
half, by the skin of their teeth (Tie-Breaker) after a great win against Victoria,
who drop to 5th place!
The Taxi Club followed the lead from all the other teams who have played
the Clubbee to made sure the Clubbee stay bottom of the league! Their
captain has enquired about buying the unused binoculars from Mr President so he
could look up and keep an eye on the leaders in case they slip up!
Athletic A climb over the Hill Bar to win, but just fail on the
tiebreaker and must settle for the Consolation league, as do the Hill Bar!
Rosebank 80, beat the Snug Bar, but both teams will be in the consolation league.
Athletic B v Dynamo Hilltown was postponed on request of the Dynamo Hilltown. They don`t have much time to get it played!
Three teams (Hobo`s, Athletic A & Hill Bar)
finished on 14 points in 8th, 9th & 10th
place, but the Hobo`s took 8th place on a tie-breaker!
The 8 teams in the consolation league are:
Hill Bar, Athletic A, Snug Bar, Rosebank 80, Ladywell, Athletic B, Dynamo
Hilltown & The Clubbee!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Graham Clark (Fairmuir) is the damp squib, spoiling the, Dave “Schwarzenegger” McMahon (Harlequins) party, stopping Dave reaching the “Holy Grail” of a perfect 1st half 100% record! Dave still leads the field by 6 points going into the second half and is still the one to beat. Graham Clark on the other hand had a bigger smile than the Cheshire Cat!

WEEK 14 – 28/11/24
Club Metro take care of business in great style in week 14 against the Ellenbank, winning 7 of the 9 singles! It was just one of those nights’ for Ellenbank, where you are not just battling the team, but the dominoes as well! Ray Noble picked one hell of a match to be acting stand-in captain for the first time, in the absence of their Captain and Vice-captain. Talk about timing. I mean, Morocco, Blackpool or Club Metro. Mmm…
Harlequins are still on fire, and keep level at the top with Club
Metro after also taking care of business against the Athletic A.
Fairmuir keep on the leaders tails, just a point behind after sending
the “Rat”s “Pack”ing!
Victoria, after their 3 week hiatus, now made it two wins in a row,
this time against Rosebank 80, to move into 4th place, and beathing
fire down the necks of the top teams like a frenzied Dragon!
Dynamo Hilltown, despite only have 3 winners, pull a rabbit out of the
hat to steal the win by one chalk against the “Wow is me”, Hobo`s! You have got
to love this game at times, but sometimes you just want to throw-up all over
the board!
The Snug Bar hood-wink the Taxi Club to take the points! Nice win
for the Ladywell, who pour more misery on the out of form Clubbee!
It seems a long time ago since the Clubbee beat Club Metro in week 8, indeed,
they have not won a game since!
Athletic B put the Hill Bar to the sword with 5 winners, but the
Hill Bar parried most of the Athletic B`s attacks, and then counter thrusted to
take the points!
With one week left of the first half, there is nothing in it, with only 3 points separating the first 6 t
Men 167, Women 182
The women are the champions 2022-23! This is only the 2nd time they have won it, the last in 2014-15. Holding the cup is the victorious women`s team captain, Alice Noble!

JEANNIE WALKER MEMORIAL TROPHY
Wednesday 5th July 2023 – 7:30pm – Ellenbank Bar
Congratulations to Bob McDonald (Victoria) on becoming the 7th Jeannie Walker Memorial Champion 2023 after winning against Ally Knight (Athletic) in the final!
It was a close one, with Ally having the early lead, helped by Bob playing an unplayable bone as well! But it’s not a sprint and Bob pulled back and then finished it off! Well done to Ally Knight finishing this years Runner-Up!
We had 29 entries which was very good considering the Taxi Club Summer League was on. It was also a near perfect number for an easy draw!
Jeannie Walkers family would like to thank everybody for supporting this event and to the Ellenbank Bar for hosting it. Jeannie would have loved the night!
It was a great night enjoyed by all
Until we meet again next year!
UPDATE – 29/06/23
The money raised at the 1st Moria Sharp Memorial Trophy held on Sunday 16th
April 23, in the Taxi Club was presented this week by Norma Rodger & Benny
Sharp (Athletic) to a local Dundee charity, “TOGS for tots”
The cheque was for
a fantastic £850!
"Togs is a non-profit organisation serving Dundee and the surrounding areas. They aim to be the ‘go-to’ service for families struggling to provide essential clothing and equipment for their children (any baby or child classed as a dependant).
They run
similarly to a food-bank – they receive donations from the public and
distribute them to children suffering from the effects of poverty. Their
service is for anyone struggling to afford what they believe is an ‘essential’
after food and fuel for the healthy development of children pre-birth to 18,
Including items for expectant mothers."
(Checkout their website for more info,
link below).
Once again a big thank you to everybody
involved on the night and before hand. Special thanks to Norma, Benny and the
rest of Moria`s family for all their
hard work leading up to and on the night!

LEAGUE NEWS - UPDATED 16/06/23
MEN v WOMEN
Wed 14th June 23
What an epic night of dominoes in the Taxi Club with the Men versus Women cup competition.
Before the night started, there was a bit of worry that this event would not be supported as well, as it was no longer a league event. Glad to report that was not the case, indeed, we had one of the best turnouts ever!
In all we had 32 men and 24 women, which meant the top 8 women would play a second games. All matches were the best of 13 chalks, 1st to 7 wins!

CAPTAINS & SECRETARIES
SINGLES – ELLENBANK BAR
Congratulations to Ronnie Adams (Hobo`s) on winning the Captains and Secretaries Singles title after beating Rab Petrie (Club Metro) in the final 11- 8!
Ronnie took an early lead and at one point it looked like Rab was going to suffer another night of bad dominoes, just like in the League Singles final against James Hendry.
But things turned around and Rab managed in the end to make it all square, before Ronnie got back to winning ways and took the title!
Once again congratulations to Ronnie and commiserations to Rab for just missing out for the second time this season!
Sometimes you get the impression, it was meant to be, especially after Ronnie turned up at the Ladywell thinking he was there, before managing to scramble to the Ellenbank!
DOUBLES – LADYWELL
Congratulations to Linda & Andy Luke (Ellenbank), on winning the Captains and Secretaries Doubles title, 7 – 4 against Kevin McWalter & Dale Harwood (Victoria).
On the way to the title, they put out Kim Houston & Jeannette Mitchell (Rat Pack), James & Denise Hendry (Club Metro) and in the semis, they beat this seasons League Doubles runners-up, Ros Simpson & Paul Cooper (Athletic)!
Thank you to both the Ellenbank and Ladywell for hosting the captain and secretaries competitions, to the controllers, and most of all, to you, the players and supporters on the night. It makes it all worth the effort!
Next up our last event of season 2022-23, The Men v Women in the Taxi Club on Wed 14th June 23, 7:45pm sign-in. Hopefully we will see as many of you as possible on the night!

LEAGUE DOUBLES FINAL – 31/05/23
What an incredible nights dominoes we had in the Taxi Club with the Hilltown League Doubles Final, last 16 doubles!
Twelve of our 16 teams were represented in the final, with only four missing out! We started with four boards, the best of 13 chalks (first to 7!), with the final the first to 9 chalks!
With doubles it always looks packed and I find doubles to be a most enjoyable and friendly game and night, and so it turned out to be!
Congratulations to Raymond Clark and Tam Stewart (Fairmuir) on becoming the Hilltown League Doubles Champions 2022-23!
Commiserations to Ros Simpson and Paul Cooper (Athletic) for just missing out, but finishing as the Hilltown League Doubles runners-up 2022-23!
Thank you to all the players on the night for making it an easy night for the controller! Thank you to the Taxi Club for hosting the final and to you the players and supporters for making it a runaway success on the night!

LEAGUE SINGLES FINAL – 17/05/23
Taxi Club
What an epic night of dominoes at the Taxi Club for the Hilltown Central Wednesday Domino League Singles final! We were down to the last 32 players, with every team represented apart from the High Corner,
The Blackwatch Cos had the most players with 5, followed by the Ellenbank with 4 players. We also had a husband & wife in the final 32, with Billy & Jenny Connor from the Blackwatch Cos!
Eight boards started us off, which changed to four boards at the Q/Final stage. All matches were the best of 21 chalks, 1st to 11 chalks.
Jenny & Billy Connor both got through the first round, but unfortunately, they both lost in the last 16. It seems they do everything together!
Sarah Richardson (Rosebank 80) was on a high after qualifying for the final, then winning her 1st match, then the last 16 game in a close encounter with Darren Rourke (Victoria) 11-10! Sarah was a nerves wreck but also on a high and in seventh heaven living the domino dream!
We had nine matches in total going all the way (11-10), with James Hendry (Club Metro) and Sarah Richardson (Rosebank 80) being involved in two of them! Sarah Richardson (Rosebank 80) lost out to James in the Q/F stage (11-10), while Tam Soutar (Ellenbank) lost out to James in the Semi-Final (11-10)!
The semi-finals involved only two teams as both Club Metro and Ellenbank had two players each! The first semi was between Rab Petrie (Club Metro) who won the 1st Moria Sharp (Athletic) Memorial in April and Kenny Wanless (Ellenbank). It was a close one with Rab just edging it 11-8 to reach the final.
In the other semi, James Hendry (Club Metro) was involved in another cliff-hanger against Tam Soutar (Ellenbank), just sneaking into the final 11-10. Phew! So the Ellenbank just miss out, but Club Metro were swinging from the chandeliers (in the Taxi Club?)!
FINAL
James Hendry (Club Metro) v Rab Petrie (Club Metro)
Club Metro were flying high having both players in the final. James had the down and took an early lead, only for Rab to pull it back! But after that, the bones did not go Rab`s way and James, not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, took full advantage and never looked like losing. Despite the dominoes not doing Rab, any favours, he fought all the way, but James in the end ran out 11-5 to win the final!
Congratulations to James Hendry (Club Metro), the new Hilltown Central League Singles Champion 2022-23!
Commiserations to Rab Petrie (Club Metro) on just missing out, but finishing League Singles runner-up from a field of over 70 players! Not too shabby if you ask me!
Thank you to all the players on the night for making it an easy night for the controller! It was a very enjoyable night of dominoes and banter with all our team mates and league friends. Thank you to the Taxi Club for hosting the final and to you the players and supporters for making it a blockbuster night’s dominoes!

CUP NEWS – 05/05/23
LEAGUE CUP
Congratulations to the Taxi Club who are now the Hilltown Central League Cup Champions 2022-23 after beating fellow club mates, the Hobos in the final!
The Hobos reached the final by taking down the Fairmuir in the semi-finals and leaving them without a major team trophy this season!
In the other semi-final, the Taxi Club made the Athletic look pedestrian and had a singles granny thrown in! It was that bad, they did not play the doubles!
CONSOLATION CUP
Congratulation to Harlequins who are the Consolation Cup winners 2022-23 and bag their first major team trophy! They beat Tams Bar in the final by just 3 chalks after Tams put up the fight of their lives in memory of their late captain, Charlie Forbes, who would have been immensely proud of their efforts!
Tams Bar in the semi-final caused a shock by beating hot favourites, Victoria to reach the final, while Harlequins beat the underdogs, the High Corner!
Thank you to the controllers and captains for making everything run smoothly on the night, and once agin well done the Taxi Club and Harlequins!

LEAGUE CUP
Congratulations to the
Athletic , Fairmuir, Hobo`s and Taxi
Club for reaching the League Cup finals!
Athletic caused the upset of the Cup with a nail biting
1 chalk win against the recently crowned League Champions, Club Metro! What a
game!
Fairmuir beat the Rat Pack, the Taxi Club took care of Ellenbank, while the Hobo`s left the Blackwatch without a “Cos”!
CONSOLATION CUP
Well done to Harlequins, High Corner, Tams Bar & Victoria for reaching the
Consolation finals!
The High Corner in a dramatic encounter with the Athletic B, managed to win the tie-break decider after both teams drew. Theresa Harrington was the High Corner hero of the hour! They may have finished bottom of the league, but here they are in the finals of the consolation Cup!
Well done!
Harlequins left the “Lady” un”well”, Victoria “bank”ed the “Rose”, while Tams Bar took on the “Hill” and made it look like an ant hill!
Good luck to all teams in their respective finals on Wed 3rd May 23, with the League Cup finals taking place in the Taxi Club and the Consolation Cup finals in the Blackwatch Club, 7:45pm sign-in sharp both venues!

LEAGUE CUP 1st ROUND - 19/04/23

Congratulations to Club Metro (High Corner), Fairmuir (Harlequins), Taxi Club (Tams Bar), Ellenbank (Hill Bar), Rat Pack (Ladywell), Blackwatch Cos (Rosebank 80), Athletic A (Athletic B) & Hobo`s (Victoria)!

WEEK 15 – 7th Dec 22
LEAGUE
That’s the first half
fixture’s completed and boy what a way to reach the half way stage!
Congratulations to Fairmuir for winning the big match of the night against their closest rivals, Club Metro in their own backyard! You have got to love a needle match!
Even better news for Fairmuir and the rest of the league, Hobo’s beat league leaders, Victoria to open the league right up! Victoria did have 5 winners, but when you lose a tight match with an 11 -1 loss, it bites you in the backside!
Despite the big results above, the best result of the night goes to the Taxi Club who whitewashed the Blackwatch Cos 9 – 0 on the night, the first one of the season!
The Ladywell make it two in a row winning by 1 chalk against the Athletic B, Ellenbank got the better of the Hill Bar to stay in 4th place, and Harlequins demolished the Athletic just missing out on the whitewash as Ros Simpson won to save the Athletics’ blushes. It also keeps Ros well on track in the Dominologist table!
The High Corner got only their 2nd win of the season taking down Rosebank 80. I bet they celebrated through the night!
The Rat Pack only won three of their singles but still managed to overcome Tams Bar (that’s got to hurt)!
The Consolation League places were decided last week and
the following teams are in:
Athletic; Athletic B; Blackwatch Cos (who would have believed it!); Hill Bar,
High Corner; Ladywell; Rosebank 80 & Tams Bar!
The 2nd half starts on Wed 21st Dec 22 and it`s too tight to call at the half way stage!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Pat Mitchell (Club Metro) lost, but Raymond Clark (Fairmuir) won to take the out right lead by 2 points (26 points) at the top of the Dominologist table at the half way stage.
Pat is joined in equal 2nd place by Ros Simpson (Athletic Hero!) and George Angus (Victoria) on 24 points.
There are 8 players in the next chasing pack including the early leader Billy Coutts (Taxi Club) on 22 points. Indeed Billy went on a 9 match run and George Angus (Victoria) has just won the his last 9 matches to equal Billy’s run!
It’s still anybody’s title!
For all the results and standings so far click “HERE”
------------------------------------------
WEEK 14 – 30th
Nov 22
LEAGUE
Victoria stay top of the table after a comfortable win
against 4th placed Ellenbank only losing two singles. Fairmuir
and Club
Metro stay
on their tails with wins against Rosebank 80 and Harlequins respectively.
Indeed there were no shock results this week with wins for Rat Pack (Athletic B), Hobo`s (Tams Bar) and the Taxi Club (Hill Bar).
The Ladywell turned over the Athletic to move above them in the table. The High Corner due to illness could not muster a team to play against the Blackwatch Cos and had to concede the fixture with only one week before the 1st half fixtures come to an end.
CONSOLATION
With one week still left, the teams for the consolation league places have been confirmed (see league tables on website).
Will Victoria overcome Hobo`s next week to stay clear at the top?
What will happen in the big clash between Fairmuir and Club Metro? What result would suit Victoria?
Drum roll please!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Ros Simpson (Athletic) lost for the 2nd week in a row and drops down to 3rd place as Pat Mitchell (Club Metro) and Raymond Clark (Fairmuir) both win to share top spot on 24 points, just 2 points ahead of Ros Simpson, John Docherty (Rosebank 80) and George Angus (Victoria) on 22 points.
Who will be top at the half way stage?
Drum roll again please!

--------------------------------------
WEEK 12 – 16th Nov 22
LEAGUE
The Hill Bar cause the biggest upset of the season so far with an outstanding victory against the Fairmuir! What a result! The Hill Bar was full of long faces, but none of them from the Hill Bar domino team who were smiling like Cheshire Cats! Mind you so were Club Metro who came in to play their postponed match against the Hill Bar, talk about karma!
Talking about shock results, the Athletic beat the Rat Pack in the Taxi Club! Benny’s hero’s strike again against a Taxi Club team!
Victoria took full advantage of the Fairmuir`s 2nd loss in a row, with a outstanding win against the bottom team, The High Corner, winning 8 of the 9 singles, with the High Corner’s vice-captain, Ryan Thompson saving the day and the whitewash!
There were also wins for Ellenbank (Athletic B); Taxi Club (Tams Bar); Harlequins (Blackwatch Cos) and Club Metro (Rosebank 80).
The Hobo`s got back to winning ways against the Ladywell, after losing their last three matches!
The Hill Bar and Club Metro played their postponed match this week with Club Metro taking the points.
Victoria now sit top of the division on 20 points, but are still closely followed on 18 points by Fairmuir and Club Metro who have recovered well after their bad start to the season! Ellenbank sit in 4th place on 17 points. The Hobo`s & Hill Bar have a game in hand due to a prior postponement.
With only 3 matches left of the 1st half fixtures, there is still plenty to play for, especially regarding who will be in the consolation league. I think it would be a safe bet to say already there is: High Corner, Blackwatch Cos, Rosebank 80 and the Hill Bar. Athletic B, Ladywell have a small mathematical chance, but would need all other results to go their way!
Athletic and Tams Bar have a chance, but need to win their last three games and hope others slip up! The teams on the top edge of the danger zone are Harlequins, Hobo’s and Rat Pack, but it`s all in their owns hands!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Ros Simpson (Athletic) can do no wrong at the moment as she wins again! Ros was not feeling very well, but came out to play her game before going home early. Now that’s what you call champions spirit!
Ros leads by 2 points from Pat Mitchell (Club Metro) who played two matches this week due to a postponed match, and won one, lost one. Also in equal 2nd place with Pat is, Raymond Clark (Fairmuir) and Billy Coutts (Taxi Club) all on 20 points.
As half way approaches, who will be top of the table going into the 2nd half of the season? We will just have to wait as it’s too close to call!
For all the results and standings so far click “HERE”
-------------------------------
WEEK 11 – 9th Nov 22
LEAGUE
Victoria bring the Fairmuir back to the fold with a 9 chalk victory over them! The Hill Bar end Harlequins 4 week winning streak!
Rosebank 80 make it 3 wins in a row after taking down Benny`s Athletic! Wins also for Club Metro (Blackwatch Cos), Tams Bar (High Corner), and the Rat Pack who took down the Hobo`s (their 3rd loss in a row!).
The Taxi Club v Athletic B and Ellenbank v Ladywell both ended up as hard fought draws!
The table is a very tight affair with only 6 points between the top 8 teams.
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Billy Coutts (Taxi Club) loses for the second week in a row which let Ros Simpson (Athletic) jump ahead with another win this time against Rosebank 80! Pat Mitchell (Club Metro) also won to pull up along side Billy Coutts. While John McLaughlan (Taxi Club) and Raymond Clark (Fairmuir) also keep themselves in the picture with good wins.
It’s still anybody’s title with only 11 weeks gone, but Ros Simpson (Athletic) is in fantastic form!
For all the results and standings so far click “HERE”
---------------------------------------
WEEK 10 – 2nd
Nov 22
LEAGUE
Oh what a night of drama as the wind and rain battered Dundee. They said it would be a stormy night but never mentioned that included the dominoes as well!
Fairmuir extended their lead at the top of the table with a win against Tams Bar, while their rivals suffered shook results! It’s only a 2 point lead, but it’s a lead!
Athletic B got back to winning ways against the High Corner after 4 straight defeats! As for the rest of the matches, Harlequins stopped Victoria in their tracks with a fine win, Rosebank 80 get only their 2nd win of the season so far against the out of form Blackwatch Cos!
The Rat Pack do what they always do against the Ellenbank regardless of form, win, and get all the bragging rights again (They did the same last season winning both matches)!
Athletic trailing when the last three players went on, moved mountains and shocked the Hobo`s with a great come back to take the win. Benny and his crew had bigger smiles than the Cheshire Cat! Last player off was the inform Ros Simpson who is on fire this season adding another win to her tally. That was the Athletics first win in five matches, while the Hobo’s slip to their 2nd defeat in a row!
The “BIG”, “BIG” shock of the night was the Ladywell absolutely hammering the Taxi Club (87-73)! They won 7 out of 9 singles, which also included a win against the Dominologist leader and so far unbeaten, Billy Coutts (11-2)! You can’t make this up, no Hollywood script writer would get away with this story line! Congratulations Ladywell on a good nights work. They like the weather on the night, were like a tornado ripping through the Taxi Club line up!
Bring on week 11 if this is what’s in store the next time!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Bill Coutts (Taxi Club) finally loses a game in what turned out to be a bad night at the office for the Taxi Club. Kevin Simpson (Ladywell) ended Billy’s unbeaten record to bring him back into the chasing pack. Ros Simpson (Athletic) took full advantage and is now in equal first place with Billy on 18 points! Pat Mitchell (Club Metro) was not playing due to a postponed match, while John McLaughlan (Taxi Club) lost. That leaves 4 players on 16 points with a big chasing pack on 14 points.

WEEK NINE - 26th Oct 22
LEAGUE
Victoria heaped more misery on Club Metro`s season (3 losses already!) with a great win over their rivals to stay equal top. Fairmuir take full advantage rolling over Athletic B to lead Club Metro by 4 points with only 9 weeks played and sit in equal 1st place with Victoria!
The High Corner get their first points on the board after up setting the apple cart against Ladywell! There were also wins for Taxi Club, Harlequins, Rosebank 80 & Athletic!
Ellenbank for the second week in a row win by one chalk, this time against the Hobo`s! The match had everything from a great atmosphere, a walk in the park lead, to a grand stand neck and neck finish, with a bit of controversy thrown in at the end for good measure! All we needed was the kitchen sink thrown in as well! Dominoes, you`ve got to love it!
All the rest lost!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Billy Coutts (Taxi Club) Still on a 100% record with 9 wins out of 9 to sit top of the table on 18 points! But the chasing pack are only 2 points (one game) away to catch him if he slips up! Ros Simpson (Athletic), Pat Mitchell (Club Metro) & John McLaughlan (Taxi Club) are all on 16 points!
------------------------------------
WEEK EIGHT – 19th Oct 22
LEAGUE
No major shock results this week, but some close games! Hobo`s beat Taxi Club by 0ne chalk, and Ellenbank also won by one chalk against Athletic.
Well played Elliot Tosh (High Corner) against the Rat Pack for stopping the team whitewash!
Wins also for Victoria, Fairmuir, Club Metro and Harlequins.
The Blackwatch Cos won a close battle against fellow strugglers, the Hill Bar, winning by just 3 chalks!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Billy Coutts (Taxi Club) still leads the way after winning again for the 8th time! Mind you in still only leads by 2 points as others Ros Simson (Athletic); P. Mitchell (Club Metro); R. Clark (Fairmuir); J. Mcvicar (Tams Bar) & J.McLaughlan (Taxi Club) are also on form!

WEEK SEVEN – 12th
Oct 22
LEAGUE
Well like buses, whitewashes are not seen for a while, then a few come along at the same time! We had our first in week two, and now we got two in week 7!
Graham Ironside (Victoria) (Joint winner of the Dominologist title last season) won 11-0 against Blackwatch Cos, while Derek McEwan (Fairmuir) ended the unbeaten record (5 wins out of 5!) of a Rat Pack player! It just shows no matter how good a player you are, if you pick up a heap of crap in every hand you play, you can do sweet F*@k all!
You can’t make this up, no one would believe you!
Seven weeks in and 3 whitewashes already! All we need now is a team whitewash?
Fairmuir and Victoria stay top (12pts) after winning their matches. Ellenbank, Harlequins, Hobo`s and Tams Bar also won their matches. Club Metro make it four wins in a row after their hiatus in weeks 2 & 3! Hill Bar get their second win after taking down the Athletic away from home!
It`s a very tight division still after 7 weeks with
a long way to go!
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
Billy Coutts (Taxi Club) still leads the way after winning again (Only just 11-10!) to keep his perfect record of 7 wins out of 7 matches! But the chasing pack are only 2 points (one game) behind, ready to pounce on any mistakes by Billy.

WEEK SIX - 5th Oct 22
LEAGUE
Hobo`s open the league right up after taking down the league leaders, Fairmuir! The Taxi Club run the Athletic ragged, while Victoria played their get out of jail card winning by just 4 chalks which includes an 11-0 default win against the Hill Bar! Opportunity knocks for Hill Bar but they failed the audition!
Rat Pack beat Harlequins, Club Metro make it 3 wins in a row, this time against Ladywell, while Tams Bar sneak past the Blackwatch Cos. The Ellenbank get back on track with a nice win against the High Corner after a disappointing last two weeks and Rosebank 80 finally get a win on the board after beating the in form Athletic B by 3 chalks!
We have a three way tie at the top of the table on 10 points (Fairmuir, Taxi Club & Victoria), with a 4 team chasing pack on 8 points (Rat Pack, Hobos`s, Ellenbank & Club Metro). Mind you the Hobo`s have a game in hand over the rest of the league (apart from Hill Bar!).
DOMINOLOGIST OF THE YEAR
After 6 weeks we have a clear leader by 2 points, Billy Coutts (Taxi

The Hilltown Central Domino League Dundee along with the rest of Scotland, the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the rest of the World would like to express it`s sadness on hearing the news that our monarch for over 70 years, Queen Elizabeth 2 has died. Our thoughts and condolences are with King Charles 3 and his family at these difficult times.
Queen Elizabeth 2 has been our monarch and head of state for 70 years and indeed most of us have known no other except through the history books. At the young age of 25 she pledged her devotion and service to our county, the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth and she keep her word right up to the end when she gave her royal approval for her 15th Prime Minister in Liz Truss.
We will never see the likes again and her 70 years servitude to us. No matter your personal views, she was a constant either upfront or in the back ground of all our lives for the past 70 years. Indeed it will be strange to refer to our head of state as King now, something I have only ever heard of in our history books!
"Go rest on that mountain
Your work on earth is done
At last you will be united once again
with your beloved husband Philip
Thank you for your service
Now it`s time for you to rest"

The 6th JEANNIE WALKER MEMORIAL TROPHY 2022
Wed 8th June 2022 - 7:30pm - £3.00 entry - Ellenbank Bar
It’s been a while but here we are again with the 6thJeannie Walker Memorial. As usual this was run as a charity event which this year was The Princess Alexandra Cancer Treatment Centre Ward 25 Ninewells.
The Taxi Club Summer League started tonight and Scotland were playing in the Nations league but we still got a good turnout on the night despite that! Jeannie Walkers family were in attendance and some of them took part in the competition. In all 21 players entered best of 21 chalks all rounds, five prelims in a straight knockout format (just the usual!).
All did not start well as Ray’s computer decided to play up and he reverted to the trusted pen and paper method! There were some tough battles and surprise results along the way but in the end the two players too reach the final were Alice Noble (Jeannie Walkers sister) and Rab Simpson (Athletic).
This turned out to be a close battle, but in the end it was congratulations to Rab Simpson (Athletic) who won 11 – 9 against Alice Noble (Ellenbank)! Well played Rab!
Jeannie Walkers family would like to thank the following:
The Ellenbank Bar for their donation and hosting the event!
The players who turned up bought raffle tickets, football cards and entered the competition! The Victoria and Hobo`s teams for their kind donations! The total raised for charity was £184 which was more than expected so thank you!
It was a great night enjoyed by all and for a good cause so thank you to “EVERYONE” for all their help and support!
Until we meet again next year!

CAPTAINS & SECRETARIES SINGLES & DOUBLES
Wed 18th May 2022 – 7:45pm
SINGLES
Venue: Ellenbank Bar
Oh what a night in more ways than one! First off the controller turns up, sits down to get ready and then realises he’s left all the stuff he had prepared (results slips, Draw sheet, Registration sheet, etc, etc) at home! At least he had brought his computer! Mind you the only person beating himself up about this was Ray himself!
Thirty-two players expected, Twenty-eight turned up. The Blackwatch Cos (David did let me know) and the Hill Bar had nobody there so got fined.
Everything despite the missing gear was going fine apart from two matches who were on a go slow (Sponsored or not I do not know!). This did hold things up a little and then there was the penalty shoot-out between Frankfurt and Rangers which produced a “Dominoes down” until it was finished!
The semi-finals were an all “TAXI CLUB” affair with Billy Riddell (Club Metro) beating Ernie Ferguson (Rat Pack) to reach the final, while in the other semi, Rab McGarry (Rat Pack) beat John Coller (Taxi Club).
The final was an ebb and flow game going with down, then Rab stretched ahead, only for Billy to pull it back. In the end there has to be a winner and it was congratulations to Billy Riddell (Club Metro) winning 11-9 to be crowned the Hilltown Captain & Secretaries Singles winner 2021-22! Well played Billy! Rab so close but well played to win 4 matches and finish as runner-up.
Thank you to Emma behind the bar for her excellent service and smile! Thank you to the Ellenbank Bar for hosting the singles event and to the players who turned up and made it a breeze to run. Lastly thank you to Alice for all her help on the night.
DOUBLES
Venue: Ladywell
Like the singles, 16 teams (32 players) were expected, but only 14 teams (28 players) turned up with the Athletic and Hill Bar no shows (Fined!).
With only three boards in play, it might have been a late
finish but for the controller who cracked the whip to make sure that was not
the case!
Harlequins, Fairmuir, Rosebank 80 and Cookies all made the semi-finals which is
no mean feat! Harlequins beat the Fairmuir 7 – 6, while Cookies beat Rosebank
80 7 – 4 to reach the final.
Congratulations to Charlie Forbes & George McCord (Cookies) for beating Mike McIntosh & Mike McGinty (Harlequins) 7 – 4 in the final to be crowned the Hilltown Captains & Secretaries Doubles Winners 2021-22!
Commiserations to Mike McIntosh & Mike McGinty (Harlequins) who finish runners-up!
While I do not have past records of all our competitions,
could this be a first? Charlie Forbes & George McCord (Cookies) winning the
Captains & Secretaries doubles and the League doubles in the same season!
Some achievement I think!
Thank you to the bar staff and the Ladywell for hosting the event. Also the
controller for the smooth running of the event and of course to you the players
for turning up and making it a great dominoes competition!
See you all again next year!

It is with sadness that I have to report another of our members has passed away this season. Jim Campion (Hobo`s) has been a long standing player for the Hobo`s but due to illness (Cancer) has not played much this season. I am not sure exactly when he passed away but his cremation is this Thursday 19th May 22, family only.
There will be a celebration of his life in the Taxi Club on Friday 20th May 22, 1pm, all welcome.
May he rest in peace...

Oh what a night which had everything including a bit of controversy and niggle! It`s impossible to please everybody no matter how hard you try!
15 doubles turned up on the night and the pub was buzzing to say the least! It was a lively atmosphere all night and the bar staff did a great job serving everybody!
